TToT-Rememberance/Veterans Day Edition

Since it is Remembrance/Veteran's Day in most parts of the world, I thought it would be fitting to do a Thankful Post on, well, remembering...

To be honest, my life hasn't been touched much by the military, and war in general. None of my close family fought in the war. My dad made it quite clear that he preferred that none of his kids went into the army, unless we absolutely wanted or felt like we had to. However, that doesn't mean we don't appreciate or remember them any less. My grandfather (my mom's dad) was a cook on ship in Canada's harbour, but he never went anywhere (much to his chagrin, I think!!). My great uncle (still alive) did fight in WW2, and my gr-great Uncle Jack fought in WW1, and never came home. I just called me dad to get the particulars:) He said that he fought Vimy Ridge, survived, and died shortly after.

1. I am thankful that I have never seen a world war.
2. I am thankful that war has not touched our country.
3. I am thankful that war has not touched our (immediate) family.
4. I am thankful that I don't have any family members fighting overseas right now.
5. I am thankful that God is BIGGER and MORE POWERFUL than any war.
6.I am thankful that I don't live in a war-torn country.
7. I am thankful for the freedoms that I have from the wars that were fought.
8. I am thankful for our men and women who fight (and fought) for me on my behalf.
9. I am thankful that country recognizes this day; by way of poppies, stories (on the news/news paper, etc), and services.
10. I am thankful for the MANY resources that are out there, in the way of documentaries, movies, books, articles, stories, and of course the people who fought who can tell the stories, and the history of the past wars.

I am thankful too, that I don't live in a war-torn country, and that war has never been brought to my doorstep. But I HATE that by nature of my citizenship, I am contributing to a system which is bringing war and destruction to other countries.

A poignant post indeed.

awesome post. I often wonder if pacifism could work as a viable alternative but then I remember Ghandi... I still have huge doubts... but man war certainly doesn't work... I think too much about this particular topic...

I sometimes forget how very, very fortunate we are that war has not touched us closely. You are right to devote a post to it. Those who are on the front lines deserve our gratitude and respect.

I love this post. I agree, I am so thankful to live in - have been born into - a country that isn't war torn, or have a history of war. Afghanistan is my first real experience with war and having Canadian soldiers really go overseas in any large numbers; and have to deal with loss as a country. I have family who serves and I worry for them sometimes - but yes - so thankful for those who serve.

Your list is absolutely beautiful! I, too, have never been touched closely by war, although I have heard stories of my grandfather and my uncle, both of whom were cargo pilots in WWII. Thank you for the gentle reminder to appreciate our freedom and how we got it.

A Little Catch Up & A Small Rant(and a Surprise!)

Howdy! Well, as my aunt says, "I'm so far behind, I'm ahead", so I think I will take a page from her play book and just st...
